(Oakland, California, Central News Agency, May 5, comprehensive foreign report) Greg Brockman, president of chatbot ChatGPT developer OpenAI, said in testimony today that Elon Musk once supported OpenAI's transformation into a for-profit enterprise but demanded full control, partly because he hoped to raise $80 billion to colonize Mars.

According to Reuters, Brockman testified for the second week in a trial in California that could determine OpenAI's future. OpenAI sparked a global generative artificial intelligence (AI) craze after launching ChatGPT at the end of 2022.

Brockman stated in court that OpenAI plans to invest $50 billion in computing resources this year.

Tech mogul Elon Musk accused OpenAI and its CEO Sam Altman of defrauding him of $38 million. He originally thought OpenAI was non-profit but later found that OpenAI abandoned its charitable goals and transformed into a for-profit company for self-enrichment.

Musk is the founder of electric vehicle giant Tesla and space exploration technology company SpaceX. The world's richest man is seeking $150 billion in damages and has pledged to return the compensation to OpenAI's charitable arm, while also demanding the removal of Altman and Brockman from leadership positions. Musk left OpenAI's board of directors in February 2018.

Brockman testified for the second consecutive day today, stating that in 2017, Musk wanted OpenAI to change its company structure because it was difficult for a non-profit organization to raise the amount needed for OpenAI to build advanced AI models.

Brockman said Musk then stated that he wanted to personally lead OpenAI.

Brockman described one meeting as particularly tense, with Musk emphasizing his extensive business experience and therefore believing he should have a majority stake in OpenAI. According to Brockman, Musk said he planned to use the funds to build a self-sufficient city on Mars.

"He said he needed $80 billion to build a city on Mars. In the end, he needed full control," Brockman said, adding that Musk stated he would decide when to give up full control. (Compiled by: Lu Ying-tzu) 1150506
