(Central News Agency, Tokyo, May 6, Comprehensive Foreign Report) A multi-vehicle collision occurred this morning on the Ban-etsu Expressway (Ban-etsu-do, equivalent to an expressway) in Koriyama City, Fukushima Prefecture, Japan. The vehicles involved included a small bus carrying students. According to police and fire officials, one person died and more than 20 people were injured and transported to the hospital.

Fukushima Central Television (FCT) reported that a van driver reported around 7:45 AM today, "A bus hit a guardrail, and a van crashed into it from behind."

The accident occurred on the Ban-etsu Expressway heading towards Fukushima. After the incident, parts of the Ban-etsu Expressway have been closed to traffic.

Police and fire officials stated that many of the injured are initially believed to be in serious condition.

Japan Broadcasting Corporation (NHK) reported that three vehicles were involved in this accident, one of which was a small bus carrying students. The deceased was a high school student riding in the small bus.

Hokue High School, located in Chuo Ward, Niigata City, announced that it had received news that a bus carrying its students was involved in an accident on the Ban-etsu Expressway this morning. Due to school club activities, this small bus departed from the school this morning and was scheduled to travel within Fukushima Prefecture.
