(Tehran, CNA Comprehensive Foreign Report, May 6) According to Tasnim and Fars news agencies in Iran, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi led a delegation to Beijing this morning for talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Fars News Agency stated that Araghchi's trip aims to "discuss bilateral relations and regional and international situations" with Wang Yi.

According to AFP, Araghchi's visit comes on the eve of US President Donald Trump's planned visit to China. Due to attacks by the United States and Israel on Iran on February 28, Trump's original itinerary was postponed to May 14-15, when he will meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Regarding this trip, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio yesterday called on China to pressure Araghchi to reduce Iran's restrictions on the Strait of Hormuz. This strait was previously a transit route for one-fifth of the world's oil.
