(Central News Agency reporter Kuo Hsuan-wen, Hsinchu County, 6th) The Hsinchu District Prosecutors Office today stated that the gambling website "Polymarket" was involved in opening a local election betting pool. A gambler surnamed He wagered NT$227 via mobile phone, engaging in gambling with other bettors and affecting the fairness of the election. After the investigation, Mr. He was granted deferred prosecution.

The Hsinchu District Prosecutors Office provided information indicating that the gambling website "Polymarket" had opened an election betting pool titled "2026 Taiwanese Local Elections: Party Winner." The betting target was the number of mayoral/magistrate seats ultimately obtained by each political party in the nine-in-one elections held on November 28, offering betting options.

The prosecutors stated that on February 6 this year, Mr. He logged into the "Polymtrade" application via his mobile phone, used the betting account nickname "Anon," bound his deposit contract address, and wagered approximately NT$227 on the aforementioned gambling website, betting on "Kuomintang victory." In this manner, he gambled with other bettors, affecting the fairness of the election results.

The prosecutors noted that considering Mr. He had no prior criminal record and had confessed to his actions with a good attitude, it was due to a momentary lapse in judgment that led to his legal involvement. After the investigative process, he has received considerable warning, and therefore, deferred prosecution was granted to encourage his rehabilitation.

The prosecutors pointed out that election gambling not only fosters speculative tendencies but also influences voters' judgments, infringing upon the fairness and credibility of democratic elections. They urged the public not to take chances by participating in any form of election gambling, as all such acts are illegal, and the prosecutors will prosecute according to law.
