Han Kuo-yu Meets New Zealand Cross-Party Parliamentarians, Hopes to Deepen Taiwan-New Zealand Exchanges

(Central News Agency reporter Wang Yang-yu, Taipei, 6th) Legislative Speaker Han Kuo-yu today met with the New Zealand Parliament's Cross-Party Taiwan Friendship Group visiting delegation. Han Kuo-yu said that New Zealand in the hearts of Taiwanese people is a beautiful, distant, pure, and hospitable place, and hopes to continue deepening exchanges in areas such as trade, culture, tourism, and education. New Zealand MP Maureen Pugh stated that she hopes to continue strengthening relations with Taiwan.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a press release on the 4th, stating that the New Zealand Parliament's "All-Party Parliamentary Group on Taiwan" organized a delegation to visit Taiwan from the 4th to the 8th. Members include National Party chief delegate Maureen Pugh (also translated as Puge), Labour Party co-delegate Duncan Webb, ACT Party MP Laura McClure, and New Zealand First Party MP David Wilson.

Han Kuo-yu today, accompanied by Democratic Progressive Party Legislator Chiu Yi-ying, Kuomintang Legislator Huang Jen, and Taiwan People's Party Legislator Liu Shu-bin, received the New Zealand Parliament's "All-Party Taiwan Friendship Group" delegation at the Legislative Yuan.

In his speech, Han Kuo-yu stated that New Zealand in the hearts of Taiwanese people is a beautiful, distant, pure, and hospitable place. Whether it's milk, cheese, kiwi fruit, cherries, or the famous rugby team, they are household names, and Taiwanese have a very good impression of New Zealand.

Han Kuo-yu pointed out that the people of Taiwan and New Zealand are equally enthusiastic and kind. He hopes that in the future, both sides can continue to deepen exchanges in trade, culture, tourism, and education, and sincerely invited the delegation members to visit Taiwan again to experience the hospitality and scenery of Taiwan in depth.

Pugh, through an interpreter, stated that the delegation members come from four different political parties in New Zealand. The political situation in New Zealand is similar to that in Taiwan, where legislators with different stances may have different views when discussing or reviewing bills in the parliament, but when they unite to express themselves internationally, "we are all the same people."

Pugh pointed out that New Zealand and Taiwan share similar values, including in economic and cultural aspects. These values are very important in the current geopolitical turbulent situation, and it is also very important to continue deepening relations with Taiwan.
