(Taipei, May 6, CNA reporter Chen Chih-chung) The 'Daxuewen' website analyzed 15 Taiwanese universities with the "strongest international student recruitment capacity." In addition to well-known research universities, the internationalization of humanities and social sciences at National Taiwan Normal University and National Chengchi University has long been underestimated by the outside world, with both institutions having established unique international appeal.

The 'Daxuewen' website screened universities based on the Ministry of Education's 114th academic year international student statistics and four criteria: proportion of graduate degree students exceeding 30%, number of foreign degree students exceeding 200, number of overseas Chinese/Hong Kong/Macau students exceeding 100, and number of doctoral students exceeding 30. A total of 15 universities met all four criteria.

The top 15 include well-known research institutions such as National Taiwan University, National Cheng Kung University, National Tsing Hua University, and National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, as well as two leading vocational technology universities: National Taiwan University of Science and Technology and National Taipei University of Technology.

Medical universities also performed exceptionally well, with Taipei Medical University, China Medical University, and Chang Gung University making the list. Wei Chia-hui, CEO of the 'Daxuewen' website, analyzed that the internationalization of medical research fields takes a completely different path from engineering and science universities, attracting international students through clinical research achievements and visibility in international medical journals, rather than relying on the number of undergraduate students.

Beyond engineering and science fields, National Taiwan Normal University and National Chengchi University also entered the top 15, indicating that the internationalization of humanities and social sciences in Taiwan has long been underestimated. Wei Chia-hui pointed out that National Taiwan Normal University attracts global students through Chinese language teaching and education research, while National Chengchi University has established unique international recruitment appeal in fields such as law and politics, communication, and East Asian studies.

Other listed national prestigious universities include National Dong Hwa University, National Sun Yat-sen University, National Chung Hsing University, and National Central University. Wei Chia-hui analyzed that the scale of doctoral international students is the true thermometer of a university's international academic reputation. These 15 schools are able to attract doctoral-level international students not through recruitment subsidies or visa convenience, but by relying on faculty, research resources, and industry-academia collaboration networks.

Outside the top 15 list, Taiwan still has over 100 universities recruiting international degree students. However, Wei Chia-hui pointed out that most primarily focus on undergraduate programs, with a low proportion of graduate students, and their source countries are highly concentrated in Southeast Asia. Facing declining birth rates, improving higher education quality in Southeast Asian countries, and competition from Japan and Korea, the long-term stability of a recruitment model solely relying on undergraduate positions deserves continued attention.
