Aierli Medical Aesthetics Clinic Suspected of Privacy Infringement, Taichung Health Bureau Investigation Referred to Prosecutors

(Central News Agency reporter Hao Hsueh-ching, Taichung, May 6) Following the discovery of suspected pinhole cameras hidden in smoke detectors at Aierli Clinic's New Taipei Banqiao branch, the Taichung City Health Bureau announced today that it had inspected two clinics in Beitun and Xitun districts. Surveillance equipment and smoke detectors were found in consultation rooms, injection rooms, and examination rooms, and the case will be referred to investigative authorities for further clarification.

Aierli Clinic's New Taipei Banqiao branch was recently found to have suspected pinhole cameras hidden in smoke detectors. The Taipei City Health Bureau, consumer protection officers, and police conducted an unannounced joint inspection of the clinic's Taipei branch. The group stated that it is fully cooperating with the investigation and will provide a detailed explanation to the public once the case reaches a certain stage to address public concerns. The surveillance equipment installed in the group's clinics is intended to ensure medical quality and safeguard the safety of medications and equipment, with absolutely no intention of infringing upon consumers' personal privacy.

The Taichung City Health Bureau stated that there is one Aierli Clinic each in Taichung City's Beitun District and Xitun District. After inspecting these two clinics, surveillance equipment and smoke detectors were found in areas such as consultation rooms, injection rooms, and examination rooms.

The Health Bureau pointed out that if the investigation confirms that recordings were made without specific purpose or without obtaining the patient's written consent, a fine of NT$50,000 to NT$500,000 will be imposed in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act. Furthermore, if there is an act of leaking patient secrets, a fine of NT$50,000 to NT$250,000 will be imposed in accordance with the Medical Care Act.

Regarding whether smoke detectors concealed surveillance equipment, the Health Bureau emphasized that as it involves a suspected criminal offense of privacy infringement, the case will be actively referred to investigative authorities for further clarification. (Editor: Chang Ya-ching) 1150506
