Central News Agency. (Reporter Wang Chao-Yu, Yilan 5th) A female contract employee surnamed Ye from the Yilan County Government's Social Affairs Department is suspected of soliciting quarterly bribes of NT$3,000 from a community development association to facilitate the allocation of subsidies. After being re-examined by prosecutors, she was remanded in custody with restricted communication by the court.

Ms. Ye was responsible for handling applications and allocations of subsidies for community development associations. Investigators discovered that since 2024, Ms. Ye had been soliciting bribes from a community development association. As long as the association could provide receipts, invoices, photos, and other documents, Ms. Ye would help facilitate the smooth allocation of subsidies.

Later, Ms. Ye felt that the bribe from the association was too small and demanded an increase, which was refused. When the association submitted documents again, Ms. Ye repeatedly made things difficult for them. The Agency Against Corruption received a tip-off and reported it to the Yilan District Prosecutors Office for investigation. Prosecutors and investigators launched a search and questioning yesterday. After re-examination by prosecutors, Ms. Ye was remanded in custody with restricted communication by the Yilan District Court.

After questioning by the judge, at around 11 PM last night, it was determined that Ms. Ye was involved in serious corruption crimes punishable by more than 5 years in prison, and there was a risk of collusion with witnesses, destruction of evidence, and flight. Therefore, she was ordered to be remanded in custody with restricted communication. Prosecutors do not rule out expanding the investigation to determine whether Ms. Ye has solicited bribes from other associations.

The Social Affairs Department stated today that it deeply regrets the corruption case involving its staff and will cooperate with the investigation. At the same time, it will review the current community guidance mechanism. In addition to establishing document review and on-site inspections, it will add random inspections to prevent illegal activities from happening again. (Editor: Chang Ya-Ching) 1150505
