During the WHA, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs plans to host the inaugural "WHA Taiwan Smart Medical & HealthTech Expo" in Geneva. Additionally, the International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) will host its ninth consecutive parallel forum during the WHA period, focusing on digital health transformation, set to begin on May 19th.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a regular press conference this morning, where Director-General of the Department of International Economic Affairs, Yeh Chih-cheng, explained that in coordination with WHA initiatives, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has entrusted the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) to organize the first "WHA Taiwan Smart Medical & HealthTech Expo" in Geneva during the Assembly. This aims to enhance Taiwan's international visibility in smart medical care and medical diplomacy aid achievements.
Yeh Chih-cheng explained that the exhibition will feature a "Smart Medical Product Launch Conference" and a "Taiwan Image Exhibition Area." The "Taiwan Image Exhibition Area" is divided into three main sections: "Innovative Medical Institutions Area," "Smart Medical Area," and "Resilient Medical Area." It will host 30 Taiwanese medical companies, smart medical equipment manufacturers, and pharmaceutical companies. An ICDF aid special zone will also be set up to showcase public health and humanitarian aid achievements in allied and friendly countries. Concurrently, the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the ICDF will hold four public health professional forums at the exhibition venue on May 18th and 19th.
Yeh Chih-cheng also mentioned that to further promote the "WHA Taiwan Smart Medical & HealthTech Expo," promotional videos for the exhibition will be played continuously at 24 locations in Geneva Airport from May 14th to 18th.
ICDF Deputy Secretary-General Hsieh Pei-fen explained that on May 19th, the ICDF plans to co-host the "Data Empowerment, International Co-prosperity: Cross-National Smart Medical Practices and Public Health System Upgrades" international forum at the Hotel President Wilson in Geneva, in collaboration with the Central American Integration System (SICA) and Terre des hommes (Tdh). Representatives from the international public health and medical fields will be invited to discuss the vision of digital medical care.
Ms. Hsieh explained that the ICDF has been holding parallel forums during the WHA since 2018. This year, representatives from the Ministry of Health and Welfare and José Renán De León Cáceres, Executive Secretary of the Council of Health Ministers of Central America and the Dominican Republic (SE-COMISCA), are expected to deliver opening remarks. Velephi Okello, Director of Medical Services at the Eswatini Ministry of Health, will serve as the moderator. Mathilde Forslund, CEO of Transform Health, a global digital health advocacy organization, will give a special lecture on "Data Governance: From Algorithms to Decisions, Launching the Invisible Revolution of Smart Public Health Governance."
In the panel discussion section, Wang Hung-tzu, Director of the ICDF Humanitarian Assistance Department, will share experiences from building basic systems to integrated application development in resource-limited countries. Cáceres will share experiences in cross-national collaboration on the development and application of the AI tool AVI One Health. Kallol Mukherji, Deputy Director of Digital Health Programs at Tdh, will share insights on "Rights-Based Data Empowerment: Bridging the Digital Transformation Gap and Promoting Smart Medical Development."
