(Central News Agency reporter Huang Li-yun, Taipei, May 5) A 30-something-year-old man surnamed Huang in Taipei was recently standing in a road intersection, obstructing vehicle traffic. A patrolling police officer saw this and approached to question him, discovering he was a wanted suspect for negligent injury. Drug-containing e-cigarette cartridges, dispensing devices, and other items were seized from him, effectively making him a mobile drug dispensing station, and he was sent for legal processing.

The Zhongzheng Second Precinct of the Taipei City Police Department issued a press release today stating that patrolling officer Zhan Peiyao of the Nanhai Road Police Station, on April 19, noticed a male pedestrian standing in the middle of the road at the intersection of Zhonghua Road Section 2 and Dapu Street, obstructing vehicles. The officer immediately approached to verify his identity.

Unexpectedly, it was discovered that he was a wanted suspect involved in negligent injury, and Mr. Huang, who had a drug record, was arrested on the spot.

Because Mr. Huang appeared nervous and evasive during questioning, the police further inspected his personal belongings and seized suspected e-cigarette cartridges containing melon-flavored tablets and etomidate, as well as dispensing devices, scales, and other related items, effectively making him a mobile drug dispensing station.

The police's preliminary tests on the seized items all showed positive reactions for drugs. Mr. Huang was immediately brought back to the police station for investigation according to law. Mr. Huang claimed the drugs were for personal use; the other items were purchased because he was interested in them after visiting a stationery exhibition, denying any intent to sell drugs.

The entire case has been transferred to the district prosecutor's office for investigation in accordance with the Drug Hazard Prevention Act and relevant laws, and the police will continue to trace the source to investigate the origin of the drugs.

The police stated that etomidate was originally a medical anesthetic, but in recent years, it has been illegally manufactured into e-cigarette cartridges by unscrupulous individuals. Abuse can cause serious harm to the human body; the public is urged not to be curious or persuaded by others to try e-cigarettes or drugs with unknown ingredients, so as to avoid violating the law and harming their own health.
