(Central News Agency, Reporter Wang Yang-yu, Taipei, May 5) The Legislative Yuan today is holding a recorded vote on the confirmation of Prosecutor-General nominee Hsu Hsi-hsiang. Voting began at 10:06 AM and is expected to conclude by 11:05 AM. If all legislators finish voting before then, the ballots will be counted early.

The Presidential Office issued a press release on March 13 stating that the incumbent Prosecutor-General of the Supreme Prosecutors Office, Hsing Tai-chao, will complete his term on May 7. President Lai Ching-te, in accordance with the Organic Act of the Courts, nominated Hsu Hsi-hsiang, Chief Prosecutor of the Supreme Prosecutors Office, as the Prosecutor-General of the Supreme Prosecutors Office, submitting his name to the Legislative Yuan for confirmation.

After a cross-party negotiation in the Legislative Yuan on April 17, it was decided that a recorded vote on the Prosecutor-General's confirmation would be held this morning.

The Organic Act of the Courts clearly stipulates that the Prosecutor-General of the Supreme Prosecutors Office is nominated by the President and appointed with the consent of the Legislative Yuan. The term of office is four years and cannot be renewed.

In addition, according to Article 29, Paragraph 2 of the Law Governing the Exercise of Legislative Power, when the Legislative Yuan exercises its confirmation power for personnel appointments other than those specified in Article 29, Paragraph 1, without debate, the case is referred to the relevant committee for review. After review, it is submitted to the plenary session for a recorded vote, and it passes with the consent of more than one-half of all legislators. Currently, the total number of legislators is 113, so it passes with 57 or more votes of consent. (Edited by Su Lung-chi) 1150505
