(Central News Agency reporter Chang Chien-chung, Taipei, 5th) The Taiwan stock market continued to set new records today, with the intraday index reaching a high of 40885.05 points and closing at 40769.29 points, both new intraday and closing highs. The OTC market index closed at 407.44 points, also a historical high.
The Taiex weighted index closed at 40769.29 points, up 64.15 points, with a transaction value of NT$997.643 billion. The OTC market index closed at 407.44 points, up 9.19 points, with a transaction value of NT$304.038 billion.
Traditional industry stocks generally closed higher, with the plastics sector index rising 3.75% and the glass sector index surging 9.55%. Financial stocks also performed well, with the sector index rising over 1%.
Electronics stocks showed mixed movements. TSMC closed at NT$2250, down NT$25, with its market value falling to NT$58.34 trillion, impacting the broader market by approximately 198 points. Delta Electronics and ASE Technology Holding closed down NT$55 and NT$5 respectively.
MediaTek showed strong momentum, continuing to hit its daily limit, reaching NT$3155, setting a new all-time high. Foxconn also rose over 5%. The electronics sector index closed near flat.
ASPEED Technology, the king of stocks, reached NT$17905 during intraday trading, setting a new all-time high, and closed at NT$17790, up NT$245. InnoLux, the queen of stocks, closed at NT$10055, down NT$645. Advanced Electronic Materials' stock price fell below the NT$1000 mark, closing at NT$981, leaving only 46 "thousand-dollar stocks" in Taiwan.
Senior analyst Liu Kun-hsi stated that Taiwan's economic growth (GDP) in the first quarter of this year was 13.69%, showing strong fundamentals. With the unchanging trend of artificial intelligence (AI) development, the Taiwan stock market is expected to consolidate and rise, with no need to set a ceiling. (Edited by Yang Kai-hsiang) 1150505
