Taitung Bluefin Tuna Season: Governor Rao Awards NT00,000 and Presides Over First Catch Auction

To revitalize the fishing industry, the Taitung County Government subsidized the Singang District Fishermen''s Association again this year. Captain Chen Wu-sheng of the ''Sheng Tai Feng No.'', who caught the season''s first bluefin tuna, was awarded a NT00,000 prize. County Governor Rao Ching-ling presided over the auction, where the fish sold for NT47,040, marking the official start of the season. Rao stated that Taitung possesses rich marine resources and diverse fishing culture. The series of events aims to showcase fishing achievements and link local tourism with specialty cuisine to create industrial benefits. April to June is the peak season for bluefin tuna in Taitung. This year, the county offered incentives of NT00,000 for the first catch, NT0,000 for the second, and NT0,000 for the third. The first tuna, weighing approximately 193 kg, was caught on April 28 in the waters east of Green Island and verified according to official procedures.
