(Central News Agency reporter Su Mu-chun, Taichung, May 5) A construction accident occurred yesterday at a site in Taichung City's Xitun District, where a worker fell approximately four stories deep into the basement. After being rescued by firefighters, the injured individual, who suffered a fractured pelvis and vomited blood, was conscious and sent to Chung-Kang Branch of Cheng Ching Hospital for treatment. He is currently under observation at the hospital.

The Taichung City Fire Department stated today that at 4:49 PM yesterday, it received a report of someone falling and being injured at a construction site on Huimin Road in Xitun District, and immediately dispatched ambulance personnel and vehicles to handle the situation.

Firefighters stated that the scene involved a worker falling approximately four stories deep into the basement. Upon arrival, the injured man, aged about 37, was successfully lifted to a safe ground area using hoisting equipment. He had a fractured pelvis, vomited blood, and was conscious. He was sent to Chung-Kang Branch of Cheng Ching Hospital for treatment and is currently under observation.

The Central Taiwan Occupational Safety and Health Center of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration told the Central News Agency reporter that investigations revealed that a surveillance camera company worker inadvertently fell when stepping over a railing to handle an extension cord while working. Due to not using a safety belt and helmet, a fine of NT$30,000 to NT$300,000 will be imposed in accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health Act, and a partial work stoppage has been ordered.
