(Central News Agency reporter Hao Hsueh-Ching, Taichung, 5th) The "Meicun Comprehensive Service Park," formerly a US military club, is expected to officially open in September. Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-Yen announced today that the city government has launched an old photo collection campaign. The top 50 shortlisted photos will receive a NT$1,000 convenience store voucher and will be exhibited in the park.
With Mother's Day approaching, Lu Shiow-Yen reminded citizens at a city council meeting to cherish time with their mothers, tell them "I love you," and also reminded all mothers to prioritize their health and not overwork themselves.
Lu Shiow-Yen stated at the meeting that the "Meicun Comprehensive Service Park" in Xitun District is expected to officially open in September this year. The site was formerly a US military club during the US military's驻Taiwan period and later became the Combined Service Forces Guesthouse, holding many shared memories for citizens. "Many elders ate their first steak at the Combined Service Forces Guesthouse."
To preserve precious historical memories and welcome the park's opening, Lu Shiow-Yen pointed out that the Social Affairs Bureau has launched an "Old Photo Collection Campaign" starting today. Citizens holding photos of people, architecture, or activities from the "US Military Club" or "Combined Service Forces Guesthouse" eras are encouraged to submit them. The Social Affairs Bureau will select the top 50 shortlisted works, and selected entrants will receive a NT$1,000 convenience store voucher, with their chosen photos to be displayed in the historical exhibition area of the Meicun Comprehensive Service Park.
Lu Shiow-Yen said that the Meicun Comprehensive Service Park will feature diverse facilities such as a publicly operated daycare center, a parent-child center, a women's development base, an intergenerational integration base, a volunteer service promotion center, and a children's sports center. It aims to create a comprehensive space that integrates childcare and community service functions, enhancing public service capacity in Xitun District. She hopes citizens will actively participate in the old photo collection campaign to jointly preserve the city's memories.
In addition, Taichung City's Heping District Indigenous Elementary School, Defu Elementary School, won the national championship in the soft-ball division of the 114th Academic Year Elementary School Baseball League. Lu Shiow-Yen believes that this school, with only 73 students in total, has 30 participating in the baseball team, meaning almost half of the students are involved in training. Even more remarkably, despite being established for only about 4 years, they were able to defeat many historically renowned baseball schools to win the national championship, which is quite inspiring and deserves everyone's encouragement and applause.
