Warsaw, May 5 (CNA) Polish Prime Minister Tusk attended the 8th European Political Community Summit on May 4, emphasizing that the US military presence in Europe benefits Poland's security, but in seeking troop deployment, it must never come at the expense of European unity. Tusk also stated that he hopes tensions between European countries and the US Trump administration can be alleviated soon to strengthen transatlantic security ties.

According to an announcement from the Polish Prime Minister's Office, at the European Political Community (EPC) Summit, regarding the recent US decision to reduce troops in Europe, Tusk (Donald Tusk) clearly stated that while Poland hopes for the maximum possible US military presence, it 'will not allow Poland to be used to undermine unity or cooperation at the European level.' He believes that 'pro-American' should be defined as jointly strengthening the dual ties between Poland and the US, as well as between Europe and the US.

Tusk also hopes that tensions between European countries and the Trump administration can be alleviated soon and promised to fully cooperate with President Karol Nawrocki when opportunities arise to increase the number of US troops stationed in Poland.

This EPC Summit was held in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia. Tusk emphasized during the meeting that Armenia is an important partner for Poland and the EU, and highly praised Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's contributions to regional stability, calling him 'a person who can always be relied upon.'

Regarding the situation in Ukraine, Tusk met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, with discussions focusing on the 'Ukraine Recovery Conference' to be held in Gdansk, Poland, in June.

In addition to bilateral aid, Poland is also committed to improving strained relations between Ukraine and Hungary. Tusk admitted that the stalemate between Kyiv and Budapest has hindered many key decisions, including EU loans for Poland and Ukraine.

He emphasized that Ukraine hopes Poland can help facilitate communication with Hungary's new prime minister, and Poland is actively promoting the rebuilding of trust between the two countries.

Tusk also previewed that Hungary's new Prime Minister Peter Magyar will visit Poland soon, and the two sides will meet to continue coordinating the operations of the Visegrad Group (V4, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia).

In terms of Poland-Canada relations, Tusk held strategic talks with Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. The two sides agreed to establish new forms of cooperation in defense, nuclear energy, renewable energy, and intelligence collaboration. Tusk stated that Canada is an extremely important partner for Poland and will soon make an official visit to Canada.

Cooperation between Poland and the UK is also entering a new phase. Tusk and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer jointly announced that a new treaty will be signed on May 27, substantially strengthening defense cooperation and broader strategic cooperation between the two countries.

Tusk revealed that the UK views Poland as an important partner for deepening its relations with the EU, and Poland will also actively promote closer ties between the UK and the EU. This is not only based on geopolitical considerations but also to protect the rights and interests of the large number of Polish citizens residing in the UK. (Edited by Tang Sheng-yang) 1150505
