Central News Agency (CNA)

(CNA reporter Hao Hsueh-ching, Taichung, 5th) Premier Cho Jung-tai today visited international skills competition athletes in Taichung, stating that the International Skills Competition will be held in Shanghai, China, in September. He expressed his hope that all participating athletes share a common mission and task: to go global and be seen by the world.

Accompanied by Minister of Labor Hung Shen-han, Premier Cho visited the Workforce Development Agency's Central-Southern-Taiwan Branch in Taichung this morning to inspect the national skills team members who will represent the country in the 48th International Skills Competition and their training team, understanding their preparations and cheering them on.

In his address, Premier Cho stated that in addition to the International Skills Competition in September, there will also be the National Skills Competition in July. Both competitions are important skills events, and he expects everyone to strive for good results and demonstrate better strength.

Premier Cho pointed out that to encourage national team members to perform their best, the government will not just play the role of a cheerleader but will strengthen more support systems. He hopes that young athletes who study here and participate in major competitions will eventually join Taiwan's industries, substantially boosting the energy of various industries. The Ministry of Labor will also play a role in connecting industry and academia.

He mentioned that in recent years, the government has used many mechanisms, such as preferential admission for skilled students and selection systems, to provide better pathways for many excellent skilled talents to pursue higher education, combining vocational education with substantial industry connections. "When young people have a stage, the country will have a future; when young people's skills are seen, the country's industries will advance by leaps and bounds."

He emphasized that being seen by the world is the expectation of all participating athletes in September. This expectation, today, was also achieved by President Lai Ching-te. The President's visit to Eswatini brought pleasant surprises to the people and returned with fruitful results. President Lai's return from Eswatini was to let the Republic of China (Taiwan) be seen and respected by the world. The athletes participating in the International Skills Competition in September share the same mission and task; they should encourage and cheer each other on, go global, and be seen by the world.

After listening to the briefing, Premier Cho also visited the training sites for national team members in various trades, including robot system integration, bricklaying, jewelry and precious metals craftsmanship, carpentry for doors and windows, CNC lathe, and CNC milling machine. He also visited athletes preparing for the 56th National Skills Competition in July. (Editor: Chen Jen-hua) 1150505
