(Central News Agency Reporter Chao Min-ya, Taipei, 5th) - The general public's deadline for receiving the NT$10,000 universal cash handout ended on April 30. The Ministry of Digital Affairs (MODA) today announced that a total of 9,038,19 people opted for direct deposit, accounting for 38.7% of the total recipients. To combat fraud, MODA implemented dual mechanisms: promoting the sole official website and preemptively registering 110 confusing URLs, as well as stopping the resolution of 17 websites to reduce fraud risks.
The NT$10,000 universal cash handout could be received via five methods: direct deposit, ATM withdrawal, post office pickup, automatic direct deposit, and roster distribution. MODA announced that 9,038,19 people chose direct deposit, representing 38.7% of all recipients.
MODA pointed out that by building on the experience of the 'NT$6,000 Universal Cash Handout,' the system design was optimized through inter-ministerial cooperation, simultaneously enhancing efficiency, stability, and information security to complete the large-scale cash distribution task.
MODA stated that to make it faster and more convenient for the public to receive funds, the system adopted modular and standardized designs, significantly shortening preparation time and ensuring more stable operations. For data integration, it connected household registration, immigration, national health insurance, and newborn data, and integrated with the financial flow system to ensure recipients do not receive duplicate payments and that the process is smooth.
Wang Cheng-ming, Director of MODA's Digital Government Division, noted that during the initial opening, a large number of people surged in. MODA planned a diversion mechanism in advance, effectively preventing website congestion, and simultaneously strengthened anti-hacking measures to ensure uninterrupted service.
Wang Cheng-ming explained that to prevent fraud, MODA launched a dual defense: first, promoting the sole official website, stating that all registrations and inquiries are made at 10000.gov.tw, which is the only site and has no branches, effectively preventing people from falling for fake websites. Second, actively sweeping for fraudulent URLs, preemptively registering 110 confusing URLs, such as 1oooo.gov.com, and inspecting and blocking suspicious websites daily, stopping the resolution of a total of 17 websites.
Wang Cheng-ming stated that this experience will be transformed into a 'Government Universal Payment Platform.' The platform is currently in a trial phase and has been used by the Hakka Affairs Council to promote Hakka coins. In the future, it will also support various subsidies, relief, and revitalization measures, continuously building safer and more convenient digital public services.
MODA reminds the public that while the application deadline for the NT$10,000 universal cash handout for general citizens has passed, newborns born in April are still eligible. Parents are urged to note the pickup time and collect it over the counter at a post office by May 22. (Edited by Zhai Si-chia) 1150505
