(Central News Agency reporter Wang Yang-yu, Taipei, 5th) DPP legislator Lai Jui-lung, who is running for Kaohsiung mayor, stated today that Kaohsiung is at a critical juncture for industrial transformation. He will continue Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai's initiative to promote the national key area intercollegiate research and education park, securing an early advantage for Kaohsiung.
DPP Kaohsiung legislators Lai Jui-lung, Chiu Chih-wei, Hsu Chih-chieh, Lee Kun-tse, Lee Po-yi, and Huang Jie jointly held a press conference today at the Legislative Yuan to put forward the above proposal.
Lai Jui-lung stated that the national key area intercollegiate research and education park is a strategic talent base jointly promoted by the central and local governments. With cooperation between Chen Chi-mai and the Executive Yuan, an estimated NT$13.2 billion will be invested within five years. Top universities such as National Tsing Hua University and National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University have already established branches and research and education bases in Kaohsiung, and collaborate with 38 southern universities to strengthen the connection between young people and industries, making Kaohsiung a key hub for cultivating high-level technology talent in Taiwan.
Lai Jui-lung said that while actively maintaining the foundation of traditional industries, the establishment of this park will allow Kaohsiung to further seize the initiative in responding to industrial changes, moving from a manufacturing stronghold to a talent-driven technology city.
Lai Jui-lung pointed out that the park's construction is currently accelerating, and it will require a stable and experienced team to continue its promotion. He will act as the "critical cleanup hitter" for Kaohsiung's municipal administration, continuously improving the overall planning. Regarding future development, Lai Jui-lung proposed four major directions: strengthening direct access for high-tech talent, connecting academic research with industry demands; creating an integrated industry-academia-research cluster, accelerating technology transfer and application; localizing high-paying jobs, improving employment and talent retention conditions; and building a talent living circle, perfecting residential, transportation, and childcare environments, to allow young people to pursue their dreams with peace of mind.
Lee Po-yi pointed out that during his general interpellation, he suggested to Premier Cho Jung-tai to accelerate the allocation of funds for this park project and promptly initiate the construction of new school buildings to strengthen industry-academia cooperation and drive the upgrading and development of local industries.
In addition, when asked by the media, a poll showed that Lai Jui-lung had 47% support, leading KMT Kaohsiung mayoral candidate Ko Chih-en's 30.7%.
Lai Jui-lung expressed gratitude for citizens' support and vowed to continue working hard to build Kaohsiung. He also mentioned that as a former athlete, based on previous polls, "I am the strongest 'mother hen'," and he will work with all the strongest "chicks" to ensure the mayor wins and the council gains a majority, continuing Kaohsiung's glory.
