(Central News Agency reporter Wang Chao-yu, Keelung, May 5) Keelung Mayor Hsieh Kuo-liang has been hospitalized due to worsening symptoms of Type B influenza, which he had been suffering from for two weeks. The Keelung City Council held an ad hoc procedural meeting today and resolved to postpone the 7th regular session of the 20th council, originally scheduled to begin tomorrow. The new schedule will be determined after Mayor Hsieh's recovery.

Keelung City Government Deputy Spokesperson Chung Ming stated in writing that Hsieh Kuo-liang had been infected with Type B influenza for two weeks and his symptoms had worsened, leading to his hospitalization at Taipei Veterans General Hospital.

Keelung City Council Speaker Tung Tzu-wei said in an interview that the city government's Civil Affairs Department notified the council's secretariat yesterday afternoon that Hsieh Kuo-liang would not be able to attend tomorrow's regular session. According to the Local Government Act, the mayor is obliged to report on city affairs to the council. After convening an ad hoc procedural meeting with councilors today, it was resolved to postpone the regular session and notify the Ministry of the Interior.

Tung Tzu-wei said that postponing the regular session allows Hsieh Kuo-liang to rest well and wished him a speedy recovery. The council will proceed with legal procedures to determine the date once they receive Mayor Hsieh's leave request and confirm the date. (Edited by Lin Shu-hui) 1150505
