Iran's Foreign Minister to Visit China on May 6; Potential Meeting with Xi Jinping Draws Attention

Taipei, May 5 (CNA) The Chinese Foreign Ministry announced today that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi will visit China tomorrow, May 6, at an invitation, where he will hold talks with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. This marks the Iranian Foreign Minister's first visit to China since the outbreak of the US-Iran conflict. As Araqchi visited Russia last week and met with President Vladimir Putin, the possibility of Araqchi meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping during this trip is drawing attention.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry made the announcement this evening via its official website under the name of a senior, unnamed spokesperson, without providing further details.

Prior to this visit to China, Araqchi visited Russia on April 27 and met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Putin then told Araqchi that Russia 'will do everything possible' to protect the interests of Iran and all people in the Middle East, striving for an early peace, and praised the Iranian people for bravely 'fighting for independence and sovereignty.' He also stated that Russia, like Iran, intends to maintain their strategic partnership.
