(Central News Agency reporter Chang Chien, Hong Kong, May 5) Amid global oil supply challenges, a Hong Kong company producing sustainable aviation fuel decided to establish a factory in Dongguan City, mainland China. This is regarded as a demonstrative project for both regions to jointly promote the establishment of a sustainable fuel industrial chain in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

Online information shows that Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) refers to aviation fuel made from renewable resources or waste that has passed airworthiness certification and sustainable certification. Its energy density and volume density are basically consistent with traditional aviation kerosene, and it is compatible with existing aircraft and civil aviation infrastructure.

According to the Hong Kong government, Hong Kong Esunny Company, a producer of sustainable fuels, and Dongguan today signed a letter of intent for investment to set up a factory locally. Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee Ka-chiu, Dongguan Municipal Party Committee Secretary Wei Hao, and officials from the Central Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office attended the signing ceremony.

Lee Ka-chiu said in his speech at the ceremony that this is a milestone for Hong Kong and Dongguan in building a sustainable aviation fuel industrial chain in the Greater Bay Area, and also a demonstrative project for Hong Kong to align with China's "15th Five-Year Plan" and respond to the national green development strategy.

He said that Esunny's development in the Greater Bay Area covers the SAF industrial chain from upstream raw material collection, factory establishment, and scaled production; compared to traditional fossil aviation fuels, SAF can reduce more than 80% of life-cycle carbon emissions and is an important new fuel project for the green transformation of the aviation industry.

He stated that global energy changes bring challenges to various regions, and Hong Kong should seize the new opportunities brought by green transformation, combining Hong Kong's international technology with Guangdong Province's industrial foundation, achieving efficient resource integration, creating a green industry with global influence, and further enhancing the comprehensive strength of the Greater Bay Area's green industry.
