(Central News Agency reporter Su Ssu-yun, Taipei, May 5th) The Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) stated today that some members of the public tend to focus on savings-oriented insurance products when planning their insurance. The FSC advises the public to review their protection gaps and prioritize subscribing to protection-type insurance products. They can make good use of the "Protection-Type Insurance Product Platform" to understand four types of products: small amount whole life insurance, term life insurance, critical illness health insurance, and microinsurance, and subscribe according to their needs.

According to FSC statistics, from September 23, 2021, to the end of March this year, the number of effective contracts on the protection-type insurance product platform reached 10,571, with premium income of NT$138.6 million.

Chen Ching-yuan, Deputy Director-General of the FSC's Insurance Bureau, stated at a regular press conference that among the many types of insurance products, protection-type insurance products have the characteristics of low premiums and high coverage, which can effectively disperse the economic impact brought by sudden risks and are the foundation for establishing a personal risk protection network.

Chen Ching-yuan said that some members of the public tend to focus on savings-oriented insurance products when planning their insurance, which may cause a significant impact on family finances in the event of sudden accidents or major illnesses. The FSC urges the public to prioritize reviewing their protection gaps and subscribing to protection-type insurance products first, laying a good foundation for basic protection.

In recent years, the FSC has promoted the "Protection-Type Insurance Product Platform" established by the Taiwan Depository & Clearing Corporation's "Retirement Preparation Platform." Currently, the platform offers four types of products for the public to choose from: small amount whole life insurance, term life insurance, critical illness health insurance, and microinsurance. The public can understand the coverage content of these four types of products through the platform and further purchase basic insurance coverage according to their needs.

Regarding the four types of protection-type insurance products, Chen Ching-yuan stated that the first type is small amount whole life insurance, which provides basic whole life insurance coverage and has lower premiums than general whole life insurance, with a maximum coverage of NT$900,000 per person; it can also be combined with a one-year accident insurance rider for more comprehensive protection.

The second is term life insurance, which provides coverage for death or total disability, paying 1x the insured amount; the third is critical illness health insurance, which provides coverage for contracting 7 major illnesses, paying 1x the insured amount in a lump sum, reducing medical burdens or subsidizing lost income during recovery.

The fourth is microinsurance. It currently offers micro term life insurance, micro accident insurance, and micro accident medical insurance. The coverage and premiums are lower, and the coverage content is simple and easy to understand. However, only citizens who meet the criteria for economically vulnerable or specific statuses as stipulated in the "Directions for Insurance Enterprises to Conduct Microinsurance Business," such as low-to-middle income households and people with disabilities, can subscribe to microinsurance.
