(Central News Agency reporter Yang Yao-ju, Taipei, 5th) A delegation from the Belgian Federal House of Representatives visited Taiwan. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Wu Chih-chung stated that Taiwan and Belgium already have a solid foundation for cooperation in semiconductor supply chains, offshore wind power, and medical and health services, and hopes to continue expanding cooperation in diversified fields.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a press release today stating that Wu Chih-chung hosted a luncheon on the 4th to welcome the six-member Belgian Federal House of Representatives delegation. Both sides exchanged views on Indo-Pacific security, renewable energy development, and bilateral cooperation prospects.

In his speech, Wu Chih-chung stated that Taiwan and Belgium are like-minded partners, and bilateral cooperation already has a solid foundation in semiconductor supply chains, offshore wind power, and medical and health services. He thanked the Belgian Federal House of Representatives for its long-term support for Taiwan and expressed hope for continued expansion of cooperation in diversified fields on the existing foundation in the future.

Pierre Kompany, Deputy Chairman of the Belgian House of Representatives Petitions Committee and head of the delegation, stated in his speech that the delegation members come from different regions of Belgium and are concerned about various issues such as human rights, transportation, and immigration. He hopes that this visit will enhance their understanding of Taiwan and the Indo-Pacific situation.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs explained that during their stay in Taiwan, the delegation will visit the Legislative Yuan, the National Security Council, the National Human Rights Commission of the Control Yuan, the Mainland Affairs Council, the International Trade Administration of the Ministry of Economic Affairs, and the international affairs departments of major political parties. They will also hold discussions with think tank scholars on issues such as countering foreign information manipulation and interference (FIMI), defense preparedness, and China's political and military development. In addition, they will visit the defense industry in Taichung.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs mentioned that the delegation members include Belgian Federal Representatives Franky Demon, Annick Lambrecht (also translated as Lan Bu-he), Lieve Truyman, and Kristien Van Vaerenbergh, as well as Mr. Kompany's parliamentary assistant Isabelle Verlinden Jarbath.
