Central News Agency. (Reporter Jiang Yi-Ching, Yunlin County 5th) The national important folk custom 'Beigang Chaotian Temple welcomes Mazu' kicked off lively today. Palanquin bombing and plow cannons took turns, shaking the entire venue. Live artistic floats joined the parade in the afternoon, attracting tens of thousands of participants, and the area in front of the temple was packed with people.
Yunlin County Magistrate Chang Li-Shan, accompanied by Chaotian Temple Chairman Cai Yong-De and Kuomintang Legislator Chang Chia-Chun, went to Beigang Chaotian Temple to offer incense and pray to Mazu. Afterwards, the starting firecrackers were lit, announcing the start of the two-day Mazu procession. Then, everyone respectfully welcomed Mazu onto the palanquin for the procession.
Beigang Chaotian Temple stated that there are a total of 18 firecracker sites this year. The procession team consists of 29 folk troupes and 19 temple gate troupes, lining up for several kilometers. To ensure the palanquin bearers enter the temple on time, the procession route has been slightly adjusted.
To facilitate disaster relief and medical rescue efforts, a green channel has been added this year, covering the section from the intersection of Datong Road and the flood control road to the intersection of Datong Road and Huanan Road. This section will not have firecracker sites to ensure convenient passage for rescue and medical vehicles.
Cai Yong-De stated that in addition to the two-day northern and southern procession, there will also be a five-day live artistic float parade, with a total of 59 artistic floats registered. People are welcome to experience the religious and cultural charm of Beigang Township. (Editor: Li Ming-Zong) 1150505
