Armed Man Shot by Secret Service in Washington; White House Briefly Locked Down

(Central News Agency, Washington, 4th, comprehensive foreign reports) US officials stated that an armed man in downtown Washington was shot and injured today by Secret Service (USSS) agents, an incident that led to a brief lockdown of the White House.

According to AFP, Secret Service Deputy Director Matthew Quinn stated that the shooting occurred near the National Mall in Washington, D.C., shortly after Vice President JD Vance's motorcade had passed through the area.

Quinn stated that he does not believe the Vice President was the target of a premeditated attack, and said he could not speculate whether this incident was related to the recent attempted assassination of US President Trump.

"I'm not going to speculate on that," Quinn said. "Whether it was targeting the President, I don't know, but we'll find out."

Quinn stated that the incident began when Secret Service agents spotted a "suspicious individual" who appeared to be carrying a firearm. After agents approached to question him, the man fled on foot, then pulled out a weapon and fired.

Secret Service agents returned fire, wounding the suspect, who was then taken to the hospital. His condition is currently unknown.

Quinn stated that one minor bystander sustained minor injuries.

About 10 days ago, the 31-year-old suspect, Cole Allen, attempted to breach the White House Correspondents' Dinner at the Washington Hilton Hotel, which President Trump was attending.
