(Central News Agency reporter Wu Hsin-yun, Taipei 5th) The Ministry of Labor today announced the statistics on major occupational accident deaths for the first quarter. A total of 50 people died in major occupational accidents across all industries, a decrease of 9 people (about 15%) compared to 59 people in the same period last year. Among them, New Taipei City and Taoyuan City each had 7 deaths, the highest in the nation.

To make occupational accident data transparent and achieve the effect of preventing occupational accidents, the Ministry of Labor today announced the statistics on major occupational accident deaths for the first quarter of this year. As of March 31, the total number of major occupational accident deaths across all industries was 50, a decrease of 9 people (about 15%) compared to 59 people in the same period of 2025.

Cao Chang-cheng, head of the comprehensive planning group of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) under the Ministry of Labor, stated that the first-quarter occupational accident death statistics show an overall downward trend in occupational accident deaths. However, the construction industry remains a high-risk industry for occupational accidents, with 27 deaths, accounting for 54% of all industries. Among these, 'falls' were the most serious accidents, with a fatality rate as high as 63%, or 17 people, while the manufacturing industry had 15 deaths.

Analyzing by county and city, New Taipei City and Taoyuan City each had 7 deaths in the first quarter of this year, the highest in the nation, followed by Tainan City with 6. Compared to the same period in 2025, Taichung City decreased by 8 people, Changhua County decreased by 3 people, while New Taipei City increased by 3 people, and the Southern Taiwan Science Park increased by 2 people.

Cao Chang-cheng stated that the data shows that some counties and cities have seen results in disaster prevention measures. For example, Taichung City has significantly reduced accidents. The Taichung City government adopts a 'large factories lead small factories' approach, allowing large factories to introduce technical safety management to assist downstream contractors in disaster prevention. The Taichung City government also proposed the 'No Regrets from Heights' plan, which will focus on strengthening inspections of common high-altitude fall factors within the city and county.

Cao Chang-cheng said that to reduce occupational accidents, the 'Strengthening Workplace Accident Reduction Action Plan' has been promoted since January this year, with multi-faceted synchronous improvements. In supervision and inspection measures, the operating points for suspension and resumption of work have been revised, and the scope of work suspension has been expanded for businesses that have repeatedly experienced occupational accidents. High-level executives are also required to attend work resumption reviews to implement management responsibilities.

Cao Chang-cheng stated that OSHA regularly publishes major occupational accident data and will continue to integrate external resources, cooperate closely with local governments and various industry associations, and assist businesses in improving their autonomous management capabilities to prevent occupational accidents.
