TAIPEI, May 5 (CNA) – Starting from the 116 academic year (2027), the entrance examination system for four-year technical colleges and two-year junior colleges in Taiwan will undergo significant adjustments. These changes include making examination subjects optional and modifying the number of subjects used for admission scoring. The Technical Committee for Vocational Colleges (TCVC) will hold briefing sessions from May 22 to 26 to help candidates stay informed. TCVC announced in a press release today that the ''116 Academic Year Uniform Entrance Examination Elective Subjects and Admission Criteria Briefing Sessions'' will launch in late May to help students, parents, and teachers understand the latest updates. From the 116 academic year, the system will offer students greater flexibility. Single-category candidates must select at least two subjects (including one professional subject), while cross-category candidates must select at least three (Professional Subject II is mandatory). To reduce student burden, the number of subjects considered for admission will also be adjusted: 1 to 4 subjects for the first stage of recommendation-based admission, and 2 to 5 subjects for joint registration and placement. Furthermore, APCS (Advanced Placement Computer Science) scores will be included in the screening process for IT and electronics-related departments. Preferential bonus point ratios for winners in the ''Junior Group'' of the National Skills Competition will also be established. TCVC will hold three physical briefing sessions in Kaohsiung (May 22), Taichung (May 23), and Taipei (May 24), followed by an online session on May 26.
