(Central News Agency reporter Hsieh Ching-Wen, New Taipei City 4th) In the Yang Hsin Cup Youth Baseball tournament, Hualien County team's catcher Chen Sheng-Xiang excelled both offensively and defensively, self-directing pitch calls and guiding pitchers throughout the game, hitting 4-for-4 with 1 RBI, leading his team to a 6-3 victory over Hsinchu City; head coach Zhang Zhi-Qiang was optimistic about his abilities, praising Chen Sheng-Xiang's high understanding and command of the game.

The 115th Yang Hsin Bank Cup National Youth Baseball Championship commenced today. In their first preliminary match, Hualien County team faced Hsinchu City team. In the top of the 2nd inning, Hualien County scored 2 runs thanks to a hit by pitch walk, Chen Sheng-Xiang's infield hit, consecutive ground balls, and Yang Yu-Hao's hit. They added another run in the top of the 3rd with a sacrifice fly.

In the top of the 4th, Chen Sheng-Xiang led off with a double, and Hualien County scored another run on a walk, a fly ball, and a wild pitch. They added one run each in the 6th and 7th innings, successfully securing the victory. Catcher Chen Sheng-Xiang had an excellent all-around performance, hitting safely in all 4 at-bats, including 2 doubles and 1 triple, contributing 1 RBI.

Hualien team's head coach Zhang Zhi-Qiang stated that the players seemed to relax a bit in the latter half of the game, and he continuously reminded them to maintain focus from warm-up until the end of the game; he noted that not being in the game rhythm in the latter half today led to some errors, as well as inappropriate pitching control and defensive positioning issues.

Hualien County's team is primarily composed of players from Sanmin Junior High School, with additional players from Huaren and Rueisui Junior High Schools forming the combined team. Zhang Zhi-Qiang mentioned that the reinforcement positions were mainly pitchers, catchers, and outfielders. The players from other schools were brought in to play, and there was not much time for joint training, with everyone only fully assembling the day before departing for the competition.

Zhang Zhi-Qiang specifically highlighted the good performance of catcher Chen Sheng-Xiang from Rueisui. His batting, fielding, and running speed are all good. Although he comes from an infield background and is not originally a catcher, he has a strong understanding and command of the game. Zhang observed that his guidance as a catcher was spot on, and today's game was entirely entrusted to Chen Sheng-Xiang for pitch calling, with only minor pointers given.

Third-year junior high student Chen Sheng-Xiang mostly played shortstop and second base in his home team, and also served as a pitcher, with limited opportunities to practice as a catcher. However, when taking on the catching role, he confidently told the coach, “No problem.” He has the most confidence in his shortstop fielding, rating his strengths as agility and judgment in positioning. His idol is MLB star Mookie Betts, whose powerful hitting he admires. (Edited by Chen Ren-Hua) 1150504
