Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology is advancing rapidly, driving the development of "Agentic Commerce." Visa today announced the launch of its "Visa Agentic Ready" global program in the Asia-Pacific region. Nine credit card issuing financial institutions from the Taiwan market will participate, working together to promote the development of agentic commerce by mastering AI-driven transaction models.
Visa Taiwan issued a press release today announcing that nine issuing partners in Taiwan will participate in the first wave of the program to drive Taiwan into a new era of AI-driven commerce. The nine institutions include Cathay United Bank, CTBC Bank, DBS Bank (Taiwan), E.SUN Bank, Taipei Fubon Bank, KGI Bank, Bank SinoPac, Taishin Bank, and Union Bank of Taiwan.
Winnie Wong, General Manager of Visa Taiwan, pointed out that according to Visa research, Taiwan''s e-commerce shopping frequency ranks second in Asia, and the usage rate of AI for product searches is as high as 96%, indicating that AI is gradually reshaping the consumer''s shopping journey.
Wong stated that by partnering with Taiwanese financial institutions, Visa hopes to preemptively address the requirements for transaction security and data trust in future agentic commerce. This will assist issuers in testing and validating AI agent-initiated transaction models within a controlled and secure framework, further strengthening trust and capability in new payment experiences to jointly create a smarter, automated future for commerce.
Visa explained that the first phase will ensure issuer systems are ready and provide a controlled environment for testing and validation. This allows issuers to deeply understand AI agent-initiated transaction patterns and experience how AI agents can initiate and complete transactions on behalf of consumers, while ensuring compliance with Visa''s standards for trust and security.
The program has officially launched in Australia, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam. Beyond validating AI agents in real-world scenarios, the program helps issuers gain confidence in implementing these innovative experiences. T.R. Ramachandran, Head of Products and Solutions for Visa Asia Pacific, emphasized that agentic commerce must evolve alongside the payment ecosystem to achieve scale. This program will help issuers prepare for agentic payments in a secure and controlled environment.
