(Central News Agency reporter Hou Tzu-ying, Washington, D.C., May 3) The 2026 FIRST World Robotics Championship concluded yesterday. The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houston noted that 15 Taiwanese teams participated in the four-day event held in Houston, Texas, USA, with Taiwanese students bringing home 7 awards thanks to their excellent industrial design and efficient programming control systems.

The Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houston announced yesterday in a press release that the FIRST World Robotics Championship, known as the "Olympics of Robotics," was held from April 29 to May 2 this year. This year, 15 Taiwanese teams, comprising nearly 300 teachers and students, participated across the ocean, setting a new record for scale.

The office pointed out that this year not only saw a record number of Taiwanese teams qualifying for the World Championship but also the most awards won in history. This not only demonstrates their technical prowess and adaptability in solving complex engineering problems but also reflects Taiwan's long-term investment and growth in STEM education and cross-domain talent cultivation.

The office stated that Taiwanese students, relying on their excellent industrial design, efficient programming control systems, and resilient team strategies, won 7 awards at the World Championship.

According to data provided by the office, in the highly challenging FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC), 12 Taiwanese teams competed in the World Championship against 1096 teams from over 50 countries worldwide.

The office stated that the Taiwanese award-winning teams include the Xinan Junior High School Joint Team, which ranked 5th in the FIRST Lego League (FLL) Challenge for Best Robot Performance Award; the Yun-Chia Joint Team, which won 2nd place in the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Control Award; Gezhi High School, which won the FRC runner-up; Jianguo High School, which won the Excellence in Engineering Award; Ankang High School, which won the Team Sustainability Award; Shulin High School and Yu-Te Bilingual High School Joint Team, which won the All-Star Rookie Award; and the Yilan Joint Team, composed of Ci-Sin Waldorf Experimental High School and Luodong Senior High School.

Hsiao Yi-fang, Director of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Houston, presented congratulatory telegrams from President Lai Ching-te and Vice President Hsiao Mei-chin to the winning teams after the competition.

Hsiao Yi-fang said: "What Taiwanese students demonstrate on the international stage is not just technology, but also the spirit of innovation and teamwork." (Edited by Chang Chih-hsuan) 1150504
