(Taipei, CNA, 4th) The Taipei stock market opened higher and surged today, closing up 1778.51 points at 40705.14 points, a gain of 4.57%. The transaction amount reached NT$1.068.87 trillion.

The Weighted Index opened at 39228.39 points, with an intraday high of 40755.52 points and a low of 39228.39 points. The non-financial index was 36941.95 points, up 1737.95 points.

Changes in the eight major sectors: ceramics and cement stocks fell by 0.57%, food stocks rose by 0.15%, plastics and chemical stocks fell by 1.02%, textile stocks fell by 0.29%, electronics and machinery stocks rose by 5.53%, papermaking stocks fell by 0.31%, construction stocks fell by 0.80%, and financial stocks fell by 0.17%.

The number of buy orders was 24,359,679 shares, and the number of sell orders was 15,536,362 shares, with a total of 12,260,707 shares traded.

At closing, 561 companies rose, 453 fell, and 84 remained unchanged.

The top 5 stocks by trading volume were Active Unified Taiwan Stock Growth, Yuanta Taiwan 50 Bull 2X, Yuanta Taiwan 50 Bear 1X, UMC, and Macronix.
