Taipei, May 4 (CNA) Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an announced today that the city's pioneering 'Reduced Working Hours for Childcare Plan' has been upgraded to version 2.0, with the subsidy for each business unit doubled to NT$200,000, and the trial period extended from the original end of October to the end of December.

Chiang Wan-an attended the Taipei City 115th Annual May 1st Labor Day Commendation Ceremony today, where he announced the 'Reduced Working Hours for Childcare Plan 2.0.' This includes doubling the maximum subsidy for each business unit from NT$100,000 to NT$200,000, and extending the trial period from the end of October to the end of December.

He also stated that six major companies in which Taipei City holds shares, including Taipei Agricultural Products, Taipei Fishery Products, Taipei Flower Market, Taipei Livestock Products, EasyCard Corporation, and Taipei Rapid Transit Corporation, will also follow suit in promoting the plan.

Chiang Wan-an said that since the 'Reduced Working Hours for Childcare Plan' was launched in March, over 300 companies and more than 500 employees have participated. He learned from visiting businesses that benefiting employees told him that in the past, they had to use special leave to pick up and drop off children, but now they can save it for when it is truly needed.

He added that another mother mentioned that by leaving early or starting late by one hour, she could avoid peak traffic hours, saving much more than an hour. A father also said that if a meeting in the afternoon could not end on time, in the past he would have to contact his wife working in Neihu, who sometimes could not accommodate, and then had to ask grandparents, causing a scramble for the whole family. Now, he can arrange things earlier.

The Taipei City 'Reduced Working Hours for Childcare Plan' was launched in March, encouraging business units established in Taipei City to provide employees with children under 12 years old who are registered in Taipei City and genuinely need to pick up and drop off children, a one-hour reduction in working hours. Originally, the maximum subsidy per employee was NT$15,000, and the total subsidy limit per business unit was NT$100,000.

In addition, at today's commendation ceremony, a total of 8 model laborers, 206 outstanding laborers, 9 outstanding union staff members, and 55 excellent unions were recognized, totaling 278 awardees and units. (Editor: Chang Ming-kun) 1150504
