Taipei City Government's Handling of Rat Infestation Questioned, Chiang Wan-an: Will Formulate Specific Response Measures

Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an stated today that frontline staff's dedication deserves recognition, and various departments are continuously working together. Moving forward, specific response measures will be discussed and formulated.

Citizens have successively reported rat sightings on the streets, and there are differing views on the city government's baiting methods for rat control. Today, Chiang Wan-an attended the 'Taipei City 115th (2026) Labor Day Commendation Conference' organized by the Taipei City Department of Labor. Regarding the recent concerns raised by Democratic Progressive Party Taipei City Councilor Lin Liang-chun about the city government's baiting methods, the media asked Chiang Wan-an if he understood the communication process between the Environmental Protection Department and Lin Liang-chun.

Chiang Wan-an said that since the beginning of the year, the city government has been working very hard to deal with the rat problem, conducting comprehensive efforts across various departments. He emphasized that the dedicated frontline colleagues who have stood firm in their positions deserve fair recognition.

When asked by the media if he considered the rat problem somewhat of a political attack, Chiang Wan-an replied that even the central government has stated that there is no upward trend in the epidemic, so the city government continues to work diligently.

Chiang Wan-an also stated that the city government has not relaxed its efforts. Therefore, a cross-departmental meeting was held this morning to once again discuss various aspects of dealing with the rat problem, and specific response measures will be deliberated and formulated.
