(Taipei, May 4, Central News Agency reporter Chang Hsiung-feng) The National Institute of Environmental Research (NIER) announced today that its "Green Talent" courses, originally offering half-price tuition to college and university students, will now extend this discount to this year's high school graduates to encourage young students to proactively plan for their future. After registering and obtaining proof of enrollment in a college or university, they can also enjoy a tuition discount of NT$6,000.

The Ministry of Environment's National Institute of Environmental Research issued a press release today stating that following the conclusion of the General Scholastic Ability Test (GSAT), Recommendation and Screening Program, and College Entrance Examination (CEEC), it is launching a tuition discount program specifically for graduating high school students to encourage them to proactively prepare for green careers. Students who pass the "Ministry of Environment Net-Zero Green Talent Cultivation Course" and obtain proof of enrollment in a college or university will receive a NT$6,000 tuition discount.

The registration fee (tuition) for the "Ministry of Environment Net-Zero Green Talent Cultivation Course" is NT$12,000, collected by the schools offering the classes. Students currently enrolled in colleges or universities under the age of 30, individuals with disabilities, and low/middle-income households are eligible to apply for tuition discounts after passing the examination. Among these, college and university students can apply for a half-price discount, while other eligible individuals can apply for a full discount.

NIER pointed out that this year's high school graduates can register for the training first, and after enrolling in a college or university and passing the examination, they can also apply for the half-price discount.

NIER explained that this cultivation course totals 48 hours and is offered by 37 allied universities nationwide. It incorporates the latest and most popular topics such as the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), Emissions Trading System (ETS), and Taiwan's carbon fee, making it currently the only training course in the market that teaches such knowledge.

Chang Shun-chin, President of NIER, stated that this course can guide students to understand the substantial changes that global supply chain decarbonization will bring to future workplaces. He also encouraged students to establish a green foundation early, which can not only provide direction for their university major choices but also enhance their competitiveness in future career exploration.

NIER mentioned that allied universities in the northern, central, and southern regions (such as National Taiwan Normal University, National Central University, National Chung Hsing University, National Cheng Kung University, and National Pingtung University of Science and Technology) have successively started classes. The latest class information and registration methods can be found on the "Green Talent Information Platform." (Editor: Chen Jen-hua) 1150504
