(Central News Agency reporter You Yaoru, Vilnius, 4th exclusive report) Lithuania has recently experienced consecutive train derailments, affecting railway transportation. State-owned railway group LTG stated that although traffic has resumed, some routes may still experience delays; officials urged avoiding speculation about the cause of the accidents before investigation results are released.

According to a report by Lithuanian National Radio and Television (LRT), one of the accidents occurred late at night on the 3rd, when a freight train traveling from Palemonas, Lithuania, to Duisburg, Germany, derailed in Jiesia, involving one locomotive and four carriages. Another accident occurred on the 2nd in Gudžiūnai, where multiple carriages carrying sand and gravel derailed.

The report pointed out that repair work is still underway at both accident sites. LTG stated that some routes may experience delays of up to approximately 30 minutes.

According to the report, LTG acting CEO Arūnas Rumskas stated that due to two accidents occurring in a short period, the company will conduct a comprehensive investigation into various possible causes.

Rumskas pointed out that the accident site in Jiesia is a complex railway hub with multiple turnouts, and where the 1435 mm standard gauge commonly used in Europe intersects with the 1520 mm broad gauge used in the former Soviet system. This requires track switching or dispatching to change routes, making the structure and operation of this section relatively complex.

Regarding media inquiries about whether the accidents were related to deliberate sabotage, Minister of Transport Juras Taminskas stated at a press conference yesterday that the accidents might be related to aging infrastructure or other factors, but it is difficult to conclude at this time, urging the public to avoid speculation before investigation results are released.

He stated that the relevant investigation is being jointly conducted by the Ministry of Justice's security investigation unit and LTG, and is expected to take 1 to 2 months to complete.

According to the report, the train carried more than 20 carriages with different goods, including the hazardous substance methanol, but there was no leakage or environmental pollution, only a small amount of coolant seeped out. The police have launched a preliminary investigation and currently judge it to be a technical accident, with no signs of criminal activity. (Editor: Tang Peijun) 1150504
