Central News Agency (CNA) Keelung, May 4 (Reporter Wang Chao-yu) -- Keelung Mayor Hsieh Kuo-liang plans to promote the second phase of the Keelung MRT route through the Anle district to the city center. Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Keelung mayoral candidate Tung Tzu-wei said today that the city government lacks planning, financial, and execution capabilities, and that demolishing houses and digging tunnels is a "fantasy."

Hsieh Kuo-liang stated in an exclusive interview with UDN that he is concerned that demolishing old tracks and rebuilding new ones could take 7 to 8 years, severely impacting traffic and making it unfeasible. He advocates for extending the line to the Anle district to create more joint development opportunities for the MRT.

In response, Tung Tzu-wei said in an interview today that Keelung residents, from childhood to the present, have heard countless times about the city government's plans to promote MRT feasibility studies. He mentioned that the first time a feasibility study was brought up was during former mayor Lee Chin-yung's administration, when he was in elementary school, and it continues to this day.

Tung Tzu-wei pointed out that the Keelung City Government recently proposed a feasibility study for the Anle line, highlighting three major deficiencies: the city government's planning capability, financial capability, and execution capability. He stated that citizens have been deceived for many years, and now this plan requires "creating heaven and earth" just by imagining it.

Tung Tzu-wei said that demolishing many houses and digging tunnels near Keelung Chang Gung Memorial Hospital are both "fantasies." He hopes that a complete planning explanation and a feasibility study can be presented so that citizens will believe it.

Tung Tzu-wei stated that his original assertion that the second phase of the Keelung MRT should enter the city center route remains unchanged, and he also supports feasible plans for the Anle district. He hopes that the Keelung MRT can be realized soon, and he will propose more feasible plans in the future that will not only make citizens believe in the plan but also in his executive ability.

Chung Ming, deputy spokesperson for the city government, stated that the city government is confident in promoting the second phase of the MRT. The feasibility study is expected to be finalized by the end of the year. Most assessments currently lean towards incorporating Majin Road in the Anle district to expand service and increase ridership. As for the old track option, due to the long construction period and greater impact on traffic, the city government will carefully evaluate and choose the most stable option to proceed.

The second phase of the Keelung MRT, from Badu to the Keelung city center, faces a dilemma between Taiwan Railway Administration (TRA) and MRT due to limited corridor space, or adopting other corridors. Tung Tzu-wei had previously argued multiple times that if the TRA could be replaced by the MRT, it would be a good thing for Keelung. (Editor: Chang Ming-kun) 1150504
