(Central News Agency, Reporter Lin Hong-Han, Los Angeles, 3rd) California man Cole Thomas Allen is suspected of attempting to assassinate President Trump by intruding into the White House Correspondents' Dinner. The Los Angeles Times reported that friends described him as 'quiet, polite, and academically excellent,' but his ideology has become radicalized in recent years, a shocking contrast.

US President Trump attended the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner on April 25. Cole Thomas Allen, a 31-year-old man from Torrance, Southern California, attempted to intrude with a shotgun, ammunition, knives, and other weapons, but was subdued and arrested by Secret Service agents.

The Los Angeles Times today published a lengthy report, interviewing Allen's neighbors, former classmates, colleagues, and parents of students, to reconstruct his life journey and recent transformation.

The report states that Allen grew up in Torrance, from a teacher's family, leading a simple life and having good relationships with neighbors. During his student days, he was quiet, rarely discussed politics, had excellent grades in school, and studied mechanical engineering at Caltech. He was active in clubs and competitions.

After graduation, Allen worked in engineering before transitioning to a computer game developer. In 2020, he became a teacher at a college preparatory institution and was named Teacher of the Year. Those who knew him generally found him kind and professional, with his life primarily centered on work and personal interests.

The report points out a significant change in Allen's social media posts in recent years. Earlier posts mainly shared gaming content, then shifted to international affairs and political topics.

Especially after Russia launched its war against Ukraine in 2023, Allen's social media posts heavily reposted war images and aid information, urging donations to support Ukraine. He then reposted anti-Trump content, with his commentary gradually becoming stronger, describing Trump as 'out of control' or 'like a mafia boss,' though his posts did not show obvious violent tendencies.

According to prosecution documents cited in the report, Allen searched '2026 White House Correspondents' Dinner' on his phone on April 6 and booked a room at the Washington Hilton Hotel. He then traveled by train from California to Washington D.C., checking into the hotel on April 23, arriving at the venue before the dinner.

The prosecution stated that around 8 PM on the night of the incident, Allen took a selfie in his hotel room, dressed in a black shirt and trousers, a red tie, carrying a leather bag containing ammunition, and wearing a shoulder holster with a knife.

About 20 minutes later, Trump arrived at the dinner venue. Allen rushed past metal detectors and Secret Service personnel, firing a gun towards the stairs leading to the ballroom, and was immediately subdued and arrested.

The report notes that Allen's church friend from his Caltech days described him as 'quiet, unremarkable, polite, and academically excellent.' In the past, Allen rarely got into conflicts with people; the most intense argument he had was with a friend over whether church donations should go to overseas children or local homeless people.
