EU Bans Funding for Chinese-made Solar Inverters, Citing Grid Threat Concerns

BRUSSELS (Central News Agency) — European Union officials stated today that the EU is reducing public funding for certain clean technology projects that utilize specific Chinese technologies, which could pose risks to the EU's power grid.

According to Agence France-Presse, the EU has grown increasingly concerned in recent years about China's dominance in the green technology sector, fearing that the EU's reliance on Chinese supplies could become a growing vulnerability.

EU authorities have now announced that they will prohibit EU funds from flowing to Chinese-made inverters. Inverters, known as the 'brain' of solar systems, help connect renewable energy to the power grid.

An EU official stated that the ban has been in effect since early April, applying to new projects, with some flexibility granted for projects already underway.

The official added that this policy applies to inverters from China, particularly from companies like Huawei and Sungrow Power Supply, and also covers products from Russia, Iran, and North Korea.
