(Central News Agency reporter Guan Ruiping, Miaoli County, 3rd) A multi-vehicle accident occurred today at the intersection of Ziqiang Road and Fude Road in Tongxiao Township, Miaoli County. A 70-year-old man surnamed Hsieh lost control of his car while reversing, continually driving "backward" and colliding with multiple cars and motorcycles, resulting in one female motorcyclist being injured and sent to the hospital.
According to an investigation by the Miaoli County Police Bureau's Tongxiao Precinct, Mr. Hsieh was driving his car along Ziqiang Road towards Fude Road in Tongxiao Township at around 8 AM. While reversing at the intersection, he accidentally collided with a heavy motorcycle driven by Ms. Shen (62 years old). Mr. Hsieh allegedly lost control in an emergency, and the vehicle accelerated "backward" continuously, subsequently hitting motorcycles waiting at a red light and vehicles parked on the roadside.
At the accident scene, Mr. Hsieh's肇事 vehicle was stuck together with another car parked on the roadside after the collision, with a twisted and deformed motorcycle pinned underneath. The female motorcyclist was thrown from her bike and fell onto the road, but was conscious and sent to the hospital for treatment.
After the incident, the driver's wife burst into tears, stating that her husband was driving normally but suddenly "surged forward and backward, completely unable to brake." Car owners who were unintentionally affected received notification and saw their vehicles, which were originally parked on the roadside, twisted and deformed. They didn't know what to do, only taking photos as evidence before seeking compensation.
The police stated that the accident injured Ms. Shen, the female motorcyclist. In addition, the accident also involved a heavy motorcycle driven by Ms. Chiu (23 years old) and two cars and two ordinary heavy motorcycles parked on the roadside. All relevant drivers showed no signs of drinking alcohol after breathalyzer tests. The detailed cause of the accident is still under further investigation. (Editor: Lin Shu-hui) 1150503
