Taipei City Refutes Online Rumors of Indiscriminate Rat Poisoning, States Placement Aligns with Central Principles

(Central News Agency reporter Yang Shu-Min, Taipei, 3rd) Regarding the issue of rat control, the Taipei City Environmental Protection Department today issued a press release stating that online rumors about the city government "indiscriminately placing rat poison" are not true. It has been explained multiple times that the Environmental Protection Department's disinfection teams have all received professional training, and the placement of poison consistently adheres to central government principles.

The Environmental Protection Department solemnly clarified in the press release that the online rumor about the city government "indiscriminately placing poison" is not true. The disinfection teams have all received professional training. Poison is placed in areas where rats frequent or enter/exit buildings, such as warehouse corners, cluttered storage areas, wall crevices, or around rat holes. The deployment process is also strictly controlled, and through joint inspections and prevention efforts, it is ensured that all poison placement locations align with central government principles.

The Environmental Protection Department also stated that if rat poison not placed by the department is found, its personnel will immediately remove it.

The Environmental Protection Department emphasized that the city government's inter-departmental rat control efforts have always implemented comprehensive prevention measures as outlined by the Ministry of Environment, including the "three no-nos" for rat control, elimination of food sources, and placement of medication. These measures are consistent with the Ministry of Environment's principles and are no different. Therefore, there is no such thing as "losing face" or "shifting responsibility."
