(Central News Agency reporter Yang Shu-min, Taipei, 3rd) As the weather turns warmer, air conditioner usage is becoming more frequent. Taipei City's Environmental Protection Bureau today called on citizens to make good use of four energy-saving techniques, including cleaning filters before use. By saving at least 3% on electricity, citizens can participate in a lottery event with a total prize pool for 400 winners; the highest prize is NT$100,000, with 5 winners in the first half and 5 in the second half of the year.
Although there have been occasional cool and mild days recently, people have been frequently wearing summer clothes since April. The Central Weather Administration's one-week forecast also shows that Taipei's temperature next week will mostly be in the 20s and even over 30 degrees Celsius. From June, summer electricity rates will begin.
Taipei City's Environmental Protection Bureau's Facebook official page posted four tips for saving energy and electricity for citizens to use: cleaning filters before use, setting the temperature between 26 and 28 degrees Celsius and pairing it with an electric fan or circulation fan, closing doors and windows to prevent leakage and using curtains to block heat from sunlight, and not turning on the air conditioner in the entire house all day, instead utilizing timed shutdowns and zoned cooling.
The Environmental Protection Bureau emphasized that if electricity consumption can be reduced by at least 3% compared to the same period last year, citizens can participate in the "Net Zero Transformation, 3% Electricity Saving, Win Millions" lottery event, with a total prize money of NT$4 million and 400 winners; those who register on the official event website before June 30th can participate in both the first and second half-year draws, while those who register between July 1st and December 31st can participate in the second half-year draw. Prizes include 300 winners of NT$5,000 (fourth prize), 60 winners of NT$10,000 (third prize), 30 winners of NT$30,000 (second prize), and 10 winners of NT$100,000 (first prize). Half of these quotas will be drawn in the first half and half in the second half of the year. Draws are scheduled for July 2026 and January 2027, and the list of winners will be announced on the Environmental Protection Bureau's website within 5 working days after the public draw.
