(Central News Agency reporter Yeh Su-ping, Taipei, May 3rd) President Lai Ching-te is currently on a state visit to ally Eswatini. In the evening, he introduced guavas from the agricultural technical mission via his social media platform Instagram. The President stated that this is a technical achievement from the long-term dedication of the International Cooperation and Development Fund (ICDF) technical mission in Eswatini. The guavas are of good quality and high sweetness, much like the stable and profound friendship between Taiwan and Eswatini.

President Lai released a video in the evening, introducing the guavas from the agricultural technical mission. He said that the guava in his hand is extraordinary, as it is the result of the long-term efforts of the ICDF technical mission in Eswatini.

The President mentioned that the technical mission brings expertise in agriculture, aquaculture, and animal husbandry to Eswatini, helping local partners improve their quality of life, drive industrial development, and create more employment opportunities.

The President thanked every partner working on the front lines of diplomacy, stating that their efforts allow the world to see that Taiwanese people, wherever they go, are the warmest and most reliable friends.

Taiwan and Eswatini have a long-standing and deep cooperation in agricultural promotion, having successively launched initiatives such as the "Taiwan-Africa Vegetable Initiative" and the "Emerging Fruit Tree Production and Marketing Guidance Program." The former aims to enhance the vegetable production capabilities of African countries, including Eswatini, improve food diversity, and promote healthy eating habits and vegetable consumption culture among local populations. Taiwan also assists Eswatini in cultivating professional seed teachers to strengthen local agricultural technical capacity.

The guava introduced by President Lai this time is a key target in the "Emerging Fruit Tree Production and Marketing Guidance Program," actively assisting local farmers in expanding production and cultivation. In addition to guavas, the Taiwan agricultural technical mission also helps local farmers grow fruits such as dragon fruit and strawberries.

In March of this year, the Taiwan agricultural technical mission assisted farmers in introducing guavas into Eswatini's large supermarket chain SUPERSPAR, formally entering two stores in Mbabane and Ezulwini. This helps local farmers improve their cultivation and management capabilities, while also gradually building experience in cooperating with large retail channels, opening up more market opportunities for local farmers.
