Penghu Promotes Sports Tourism, Taiwan-Japan Youth Basketball Exchange Competition Debuts

(Central News Agency Penghu County 3rd) The Penghu County Taiwan-Japan Youth Basketball Exchange Competition debuted today. Japan's Volters U18 basketball team from Kumamoto will for the first time engage in friendly exchange matches with four teams including Penghu's Magong High School. On the 4th, they will also enjoy the opening show of the Penghu International Sea Fireworks Festival performed by a Japanese fireworks team.

The Taiwan-Japan Youth Basketball Exchange Competition commenced this afternoon at the Penghu County Comprehensive Stadium, with Penghu County Deputy Speaker Lan Kai-yuan and Education Department Director Chen Jing-hui officiating the opening tip-off. The first match was between the Penghu Youth Team and Japan's Kumamoto Volters U18 basketball team.

Lan Kai-yuan, who facilitated the Taiwan-Japan basketball exchange competition, stated that under the premise of sports tourism, he is grateful for the support from the Penghu County Government and Magong High School, as well as the active promotion by the Penghu County Sports Tourism Development Association, to make this Taiwan-Japan basketball exchange competition possible today. He hopes that during the short exchange matches, Penghu athletes can absorb new concepts and skills from the Japanese team, laying a good foundation for their future basketball careers.

Hung Chang-ching, a former professional basketball player, said that basketball is a universal language that transcends language and culture. Looking back, he competed as a player on the court, and now in a changed role, he looks forward even more to seeing young Penghu players grow in the competition, accumulating experience through actual combat and gradually advancing to higher stages.

The Kumamoto Volters U18 basketball team, belonging to a Japanese club team, will participate in exchange matches with four basketball teams, including the Penghu Youth Team, Magong High School, Kaohsiung Sanmin Vocational High School, and I-Shou University, during their 5-day, 4-night itinerary in Penghu. Tomorrow evening, they will also attend the opening show of the Penghu International Sea Fireworks Festival performed by a Japanese fireworks team, bringing a basketball extravaganza combining competition and cultural exchange to Penghu.
