(Yilan, May 3rd, Central News Agency reporter Wang Zhaoyu) Today is the last day of the Labor Day holiday. Northbound traffic on National Freeway 5 has surged, with the entrance to the Hsuehshan Tunnel congested for 6 kilometers at noon. Xu Chengcang, head of the Yilan County Police Department's Traffic Team, stated that the traffic is expected to gradually ease around 8 PM.

Xu Chengcang informed the Central News Agency reporter today that ramp metering for northbound entrances from Su'ao to Pinglin on National Freeway 5 was activated at 8 AM. Around 12 PM, the northbound entrance to the Hsuehshan Tunnel was congested for about 6 kilometers, with an average speed of about 25 kilometers per hour inside the tunnel. Congestion at the Toucheng, Yilan, and Luodong ramps was about 500 meters to 1 kilometer.

Xu Chengcang pointed out that based on past experience, many road users return north the day before the holiday ends. Today, traffic is expected to gradually ease after 8 PM. To cope with the holiday return traffic, the police have deployed personnel in advance on important roads to fully implement traffic control duties and ensure smooth traffic flow.

Regarding the traffic situation on the Su-Hua Highway, the Directorate General of Highways, Eastern District Maintenance Engineering Office, issued a press release stating that the entire Su-Hua Highway was smooth in the morning. It is estimated that northbound traffic on the Su-Hua Highway will become significantly heavier in the afternoon, with a demand for approximately 7500 vehicles. (Edited by Zhang Yajing) 1150503
