(Central News Agency reporter Chang Yi-Lian, Kaohsiung, 3rd) Fo Guang Shan's 'International Ten Thousand Buddhas Three Altars Great Precepts Alms Pilgrimage and Prayer' commenced today. 250 'newly ordained monks' followed Buddhist precepts, embarking on an 8-day alms-gathering pilgrimage across Taiwan. The first stop reached the Buddha Memorial Center, where, amidst the reverberating chanting of the Buddha's name, the procession stretched for several kilometers.

Fo Guang Shan stated that the 250 newly ordained monks, after receiving their great precepts, set off from Fo Guang Shan's Main Shrine. Venerable Master Hsin Bao, the abbot of Fo Guang Shan, presided over the alms-gathering prayer ceremony and read out the alms pilgrimage declaration: 'Walking the path of national prosperity and strength, walking the path of flourishing Buddhism, walking the path of human enlightenment, walking the path of faithful Buddhist disciples.'

Fo Guang Shan pointed out in a press release that Venerable Master Hsin Bao and several other Dharma masters, wearing bamboo hats and holding alms bowls, set off for the alms pilgrimage around 3:20 PM, led by flag bearers from Pumen High School's baseball team.

Fo Guang Shan stated that among the devotees offering support along the route were tourists and volunteers from places like Sweden, Tokyo (Japan), and Hong Kong, as well as people from all over Taiwan. They brought their families to pray for good health and family harmony.

Additionally, Fo Guang Shan mentioned that the alms pilgrimage procession stretched for several kilometers, going from the Main Shrine along Fo Guang Boulevard and turning into the Great Enlightenment Boulevard of the Buddha Memorial Center. Along the way, devotees remained enthusiastic, continuously offering donations for blessings. Some also greeted the Dharma masters and took photos for remembrance.

Fo Guang Shan stated that the alms pilgrimage procession, spanning several kilometers, gathered at the Bodhi Square of the Buddha Memorial Center, where Venerable Master Hsin Bao presided over the grand dedication, leading monks and laypeople in chanting scriptures. He also cited the anecdote 'Zen Master Zhaozhou, eighty years old, still on pilgrimage,' whose meaning speaks of the Zen master's tireless diligence and spirit of seeking truth, containing profound Zen principles, encouraging everyone to diligently cultivate practice.
