(Central News Agency reporter Wang Hongcheng, New Taipei City, 3rd) A peeping incident has been exposed at a beauty clinic in Banqiao, New Taipei City. A woman undergoing treatment felt that a smoke detector in the corner of the treatment room ceiling was suspicious. After reporting it to the police, it was confirmed that a pinhole camera was hidden inside the fake smoke detector. The police stated they would notify the clinic's person in charge to explain the situation.

According to reports, a woman posted on a social media community that when she went to a well-known chain beauty clinic's Banqiao branch for body contouring on the 1st, she found an unknown device in the corner of the ceiling while changing clothes in the treatment room, suspecting it contained a camera lens.

Although the woman asked clinic staff, the clinic insisted it was a smoke detector. Therefore, the woman chose to call the police. Upon arrival, the police dismantled the device and confirmed there was a camera inside. The camera was powered on and connected to a wire, but where the wire led was unclear.

The Haishan Precinct explained today that after receiving the report, police officers and forensic personnel were dispatched to the clinic to investigate, confirming the device contained a camera, but it could not be confirmed whether it was operating. No one from the clinic came forward to explain. Therefore, the police initiated an investigation for obstruction of privacy and will subsequently notify the clinic's person in charge to appear for questioning to clarify the facts of the case.

The Department of Health stated today that although no complaint has been received regarding this case, it involves violations of Article 72 of the Medical Act and Article 315-1 of the Criminal Code. Therefore, the Department of Health has launched a relevant administrative investigation. If the institution is found to have violated regulations, in addition to a fine of not less than NT$50,000 and not more than NT$250,000 in accordance with the Medical Act, it will also be referred to the judicial authorities for investigation.
