(Central News Agency, Reporter Li Jian-zhong, Taipei, May 3rd) The 115th All-University Games men's artistic gymnastics team finals were held today at Houde Elementary School in New Taipei City. Taipei City University, led by national team members Xiao Youran and Lin Guanyi, won the gold medal with 211.9 points, completing their second consecutive championship. Coach Zheng Kunjie revealed that there will be a big challenge next year.
The Taipei City University men's artistic gymnastics team is led by national team members Xiao Youran and Lin Guanyi, joined by Qiu Boxun, Jiang Yuli, Liu Yanfu, and Xiao Peiran. Their overall strength is clearly higher than other schools. Although some athletes made occasional mistakes, they successfully won the gold medal at this year's National University Games.
Zheng Kunjie stated in an interview with the media that there have indeed been fewer men's team schools in the past two years. “Coupled with our numerical advantage, our fault tolerance rate is indeed higher. But starting next year, Fu Jen Catholic University and National Taiwan Sport University have recruited good students, and their numbers are sufficient. It will be very difficult for Taipei City University to challenge for a third consecutive championship.”
Zheng Kunjie mentioned that each athlete had their own mistakes today, and from the scores, their performance was indeed not ideal. “But I think it's probably because everyone has had many competitions in the past two months, and their bodies are more fatigued. National athletes from other schools also had issues when competing.”
Zheng Kunjie also mentioned his protégé Xiao Youran, believing that Xiao Youran, as the captain, played a significant role for the entire team.
Zheng Kunjie said, “Youran transformed from a junior to a senior, and now he is the most senior member of the entire team. He indeed played a big role during the competition, able to remind his juniors of things to pay attention to. He also competed in 6 events today, and I was originally worried that he wouldn't have enough stamina to finish, but he still successfully completed them.”
Taipei City University President Qiu Yinghao stated that it is indeed not easy for the men's gymnastics team to win consecutive team gold medals for two years. “Our logistical support has also been excellent, especially in sports science, which has greatly helped the athletes. Next year, Taipei City University will host the All-University Games, and we hope to continue defending the gold medal.” (Edited by Chang Ya-ching) 1150503
