Trump Dissatisfied with Tehran's Proposal; Iranian Senior Military Official Says War May Reignite

(Tehran, Central News Agency, May 2, Comprehensive Foreign Report) An Iranian senior military official stated today that a resumption of hostilities with the United States is "very likely to happen." This comes after U.S. President Trump earlier indicated he was not satisfied with Iran's negotiation proposal.

Fars News Agency reported that Mohammad Jafar Asadi, a senior official of the Iranian military's central command system, said: "A renewed conflict between Iran and the United States is very likely."

Asadi added: "There is evidence that the U.S. side has not abided by any commitments or agreements."

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi told diplomats in Tehran: "The ball is now in the U.S.'s court to choose between a diplomatic path or continued confrontation."

Gharibabadi also said that Iran "is prepared for both possibilities."

The White House declined to provide details on Iran's latest proposal, but news website Axios reported that U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff had proposed amendments to the previous plan, re-including Iran's nuclear program as a negotiating issue.

Reuters reported that a senior Iranian official stated today that Iran's proposal, currently rejected by Donald Trump, included resuming shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, the U.S. lifting sanctions on Iran, and leaving the issue of Iran's nuclear program for later negotiation.
