(Washington, May 1st, Central News Agency reporter Hou Tzu-ying) The Washington National Cathedral's Flower Mart event kicked off today, with the Taiwan Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO) invited to participate in the "International Floral Exhibit." Taiwan's floral art piece centers on celebrating the 250th anniversary of American Independence and Taiwan-U.S. friendship, weaving bilateral ties through Taiwanese Phalaenopsis orchids and the American national flower, the rose.

The Washington National Cathedral Flower Mart event will be held today and tomorrow. TECRO was once again invited to participate in the "International Floral Exhibit" this year. Representative Yu Ta-tsai attended the opening ceremony this morning, cutting the ribbon alongside other diplomatic representatives from foreign embassies participating in the flower show.

According to information provided by TECRO, this year's Taiwanese floral art piece focuses on celebrating the 250th anniversary of American Independence and Taiwan-U.S. friendship, incorporating iconic Taiwanese elements. It intertwines Taiwanese Phalaenopsis orchids and the American national flower, the rose, to symbolize Taiwan-U.S. ties.

The artwork also conveys blessings through the imagery of sky lanterns, with the Taiwan black bear and the bald eagle jointly enjoying Taiwanese tea, symbolizing the friendly and trustworthy partnership between Taiwan and the U.S., and showcasing the deep connection of democracy, freedom, and cooperation.

This Taiwanese floral art piece attracted the attention of many visitors. Amie Wheeler, a floral judge from the National Garden Clubs of America, told Central News Agency reporters that the white, pink, and yellow roses used in the piece symbolize "the joy and love between us," while the tea ceremony represents "the community friendship we have built."

She said, "This is a beautiful floral display full of symbolism."

Information provided by TECRO indicates that since its first staging in 1939, the Washington National Cathedral Flower Mart has been a major annual event in the Washington D.C. area. The organizers added the "International Floral Exhibit" in 2006, inviting foreign embassies in the U.S. to showcase floral works with national characteristics. TECRO was first invited to participate in 2015.

Participating embassies this year include those from the United Kingdom, France, Thailand, Japan, Ukraine, and Haiti. (Edited by Chen Hui-ping) 1150502
